Lufthansa pilots vote on strike

A strike by Lufthansa pilots is becoming more and more likely, according to Bild. In a vote, the voting members of the Vereinigung Cockpit voted in favor of strike action by a very clear majority. This was announced by the union today after the votes were counted.

This means that a strike by Lufthansa’s approximately 5,000 core pilots is possible with immediate effect, but has not yet been requested by the Executive Board. Even before the count, VC salary expert Marcel Gröls had explained that this was initially a “warning signal” for Lufthansa’s executive board. Management was now expected to make “good offers”.

At Lufthansa Passenger Airlines 97.6% of participants voted in favor of the strike. At subsidiary Cargo, the figure was even higher at 99.3%.

As recently as Wednesday, the Verdi union had nearly paralyzed flights at Germany’s biggest airline with a warning strike by ground staff. More than 1,000 flights were canceled and about 134,000 passengers were forced to change their flight plans. (bw)
