Lukashenko: Western countries “pushed” Ukraine into a war

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said today that Western countries had pushed the Ukrainian government into a war, as reported by the Russian agency TASS.

“The West has pushed them into this war,” he said in an interview with Japan’s TBS television channel Belarus-1 on YouTube. The Belarusian leader said Kyiv had imposed sanctions on Belarus even before the West.

“Military action in Ukraine would end quickly if the United States took a pro-peace stance, but Washington is unlikely to make such a move,” he said.

“The war could end very quickly if he (the US president) makes a phone call, if the US takes a stand in favor of establishing peace on Ukrainian soil. However, it is unlikely that he will make such a phone call. The reason is that the current “The situation in Ukraine is favorable for the Americans. This is what America needs,” Lukashenko said.

According to him, either Russia and Ukraine can end the hostilities by signing an agreement or the US, ordering the Ukrainian authorities to cease military activities. The Belarusian president believes that if Washington takes such a step, the European Union and other countries will support it.

Belarus was ready to deploy border guards on the Donbas-Russia border, but Ukraine rejected the initiative, Lukashenko said. “I did my best to prevent war and keep the peace there before a conflict broke out between Ukraine and Russia,” he said.

He added that Ukraine had imposed sanctions on Belarus even before Western countries. In particular, Ukraine closed the country’s airspace to Belarusian aircraft.
