The President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, a key ally of Russia which invaded Ukraine six months ago, today addressed a congratulatory message to the Ukrainian people on the occasion of Independence Day.
“I am convinced that the current disputes cannot destroy the basis of sincere neighborly relations between the peoples of the two countries that has lasted for many centuries,” Lukashenko said in his message.
Belarus will continue to be in favor of “strengthening friendly contacts based on mutual respect at all levels” with Kyiv, he assured.
“The Belarusian president wishes Ukrainians a peaceful sky, tolerance, courage and strength to regain a good life,” the statement concluded.
A former Soviet republic, Ukraine today celebrates 31 years of independence, exactly six months after the Russian invasion.
