Lula accommodates centrão in the government; Haddad signals that lack of fiscal control could be expensive

After much “stretching and pulling”, president-elect Lula seems to have managed to set up a political board to accommodate the centrão parties in his third term.

In the division of seats, the PT took the ministries that are in the political showcase, with gigantic budgets. The centrão got the least pompous folders, but which have considerable cash and political capillarity.

Until now, the future Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, has been heard when he says that he is going to put his house in order and avoid a burst of public spending. Ending the fuel exemption corroborates this promise.

He signals that it is more expensive to deal with inflation due to lack of fiscal control than to correct an artificial drop in prices, as happened with fuel. Still, there is a cognitive dissonance between Lula and the market. This mismatch still appears in asset prices.
