Lula and Janja visit Giza pyramids on the first day of their official trip to Egypt

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and the first lady, Janja, visited, this Wednesday (14), the pyramids of Giza, in Cairo.

The private agenda was the president's only official commitment during the first day of the official trip to Egypt.

Lula and Janja made the visit accompanied by a translator and the Egyptologist and former Minister of Antiquities of Egypt, Khaled al-Anani.

Dating back more than 4,500 years, the pyramids of Giza are the oldest of the seven wonders of the ancient world.

Located in the suburbs of the Egyptian capital of Cairo, the Giza Necropolis is considered a UNESCO heritage site and receives millions of visitors annually.

The president arrived in Cairo at around 4am (Brasília time) this Wednesday. In the country, he must also meet with President Abdul Fatah al-Sisi.

According to Itamaraty, Lula must address problems related to the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

Bilateral agreements should also be signed in the areas of bioenergy and science, technology and innovation. Climate change and reform of international organizations are other likely topics of discussion.

After Egypt, Lula will travel to Ethiopia, where he will have bilateral meetings and will participate as a guest at the 37th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, an entity that brings together the 55 nations of Africa.

Bilateral agreements should also be signed in the areas of bioenergy and science, technology and innovation.

The trip is the president's first outside the country this year and his second to Africa this term, in a gesture that demonstrates Brazil's interest in a deeper relationship with emerging economies.
