President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and other heads of state invited to the G7 summit visit the Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima, Japan, this Sunday morning, the 21st, at local time – 12 hours ahead of time from Brasilia.
The park is located where a large shopping center was destroyed by the atomic bomb during World War II. The monument is exactly 150 meters from the epicenter of the explosion in August 1945.
In addition to Lula, the heads of state of Australia, Comoros, the Cook Islands, India, Indonesia, South Korea and Vietnam participated in the visit.
On this Saturday morning [madrugada da sexta-feira no Brasil]G7 leaders visited the same location and attended a tribute to the victims of the atomic bomb.
The G7 is made up of the seven most industrialized nations in the world: Germany, Canada, the United States, France, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom.
This Sunday (21), the last day of the G7 summit, Lula will have a full agenda in Hiroshima. Six meetings have already been scheduled, between heads of government and businessmen. The central theme of the meeting will be “Towards a peaceful, stable and prosperous world”.
The eventual bilateral meeting with the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, however, is still in doubt.
Lula’s schedule on Sunday (21)
- 2:30 am – Meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres
- 3:15 am – Meeting with the Prime Minister of Vietnam, Pham Minh Chinh
- 5am – Meeting with representatives of Mitsui, NEC, Nippon Steel and Toyota conglomerates
- 8 pm – Press conference before departure back to Brazil
