Lula arrives in Egypt to attend COP27

President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) arrived this Monday (14th) in Sharm el-Sheik, Egypt, to participate in the United Nations Climate Summit (COP27).

At least five governors of the states that make up the Legal Amazon region are going to deliver a letter to Lula proposing an alliance with the federal government for the preservation of the forest. They are: Gladson Cameli (PP), from Acre; Mauro Mendes (União Brasil), from Mato Grosso; Helder Barbalho (MDB), from Pará; Wanderlei Barbosa (Republicans), from Tocantins; and Marcos Rocha (União Brasil), from Rondônia.

The governors are going to meet the president-elect this Wednesday (16th), at the stand that the consortium set up in the COP27 space.

Representatives from Indonesia, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Brazil announced a trilateral commitment to further protect tropical forests. The pact provides, among other things, for cooperation in the environmental agenda for the preservation of biomes and the development of a mechanism for sustainable development.

Negotiations began at COP26, in Glasgow, Scotland, continued in the current edition, being concluded at the G-20 meeting, in Indonesia.

Brazil remains on the agenda at COP27, with national and international leaders, due to the potential for renewable energy, the importance of protecting forests, and mainly due to the arrival of Lula. The petista will have a schedule full of bilateral meetings and meeting with old and possible new allies.

“Brazil arrives at this COP27 with very high expectations in relation to the next government. Precisely President Lula’s leadership is also back on the scene. So, there are two returns, one from Brazil, and another from Lula, as a leader, now much more experienced, hardened from having governed the country in moments of great difficulty in this environmental debate and now seen as a veteran reference”, says the senator Jean Paul Prates (PT-RN).
