Lula asks Brazilian diplomacy not to give up on mobilization to end the war

Even with the United States embargo on Brazil’s resolution, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) asked Brazilian diplomacy to remain mobilized to pacify the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

According to reports made to CNN Lula has preached the need for the United Nations (UN) Security Council – presided over by Brazil throughout the month of October – not to be silent at this time.

The idea is to present a new resolution or a public statement signed by the countries that are part of the select group.

One of the arguments used by American diplomats is that the Brazilian resolution could gain the support of the United States in a second moment. President Joe Biden outside Israel would generate less diplomatic discomfort for Americans.

Lula also discussed the war in a video conference meeting with palace ministers this Thursday morning (19).

The PT member reaffirmed the need for government members to be cautious in public statements, avoiding creating embarrassment at a time considered sensitive.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, will represent Brazil at the meeting called by Egypt to discuss the situation in the Gaza Strip. The meeting is scheduled for Saturday (21).

The event was called amid the escalation of the conflict between Hamas and Israel. The effort is in an attempt to prevent the fighting from spreading to the Middle East. In addition to Brazil and Egypt, Iraq, Turkey and Qatar are also expected to participate.

Lula has defended that the result of the meeting should be awaited for a new meeting within the scope of the UN Security Council.

The assessment of members of Brazilian diplomacy is that the conflict in Israel is more likely to be alleviated through negotiations with the Arab community than within the scope of the world’s superpowers.
