The President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), signed this Monday (30) a decree with a package of measures to confront illegal mining in the Yanomami territory and combat the humanitarian crisis that affects the indigenous people.
The text authorizes the Air Force Command to create an Air Defense Identification Zone (Zida) under Yanomami territory. The measure allows national security to identify, track and control civil aircraft passing through airspace. In the zone, the Air Force can adopt measures against any air traffic that may involve an illegal act.
According to the decree, the Ministry of Defense will provide intelligence data to teams from the Federal Police (PF), Ibama and other agencies working to help neutralize aircraft and equipment used for illegal mining in the territory.
Lula also authorizes the opening or reopening of support posts of the National Foundation for Indigenous Peoples (Funai) and basic health units in the area.
According to the decree, the Ministries of Defence, Health, Social Development and Indigenous Peoples will be able to request goods, servers and services needed for the site.
In addition, the National Security Force will also be able to work with the health and assistance teams that will be working in the Yanomami territory.
The requirements of the folders can be made when related to the transport of security, health and assistance teams; the supply of potable water; supplying food related to indigenous traditions; and the provision of clothing.
