During a dinner offered by Emperor Naruhito do Japan in Tokyo, on Tuesday (25), President Luís Inácio Lula da Silva gave a speech that praised the relationship between the two country and called for the support of the host country to COP 30, which will be held in Brazil in November.
The president recalled the emperor’s speech during the 8th World Water Forum in Brasilia in 2018, where he asked the international community to prioritize the sustainable supply of water and basic sanitation.
“As a country that houses the largest tropical forest and freshwater reserve in the world […] Brazil is committed to a sustainability model based on social inclusion, ”said Lula.“ We have the firm engagement of Japan at COP 30 in Belém do Pará, ”he added.
The Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva, is part of the entourage that accompanies the president in Japan and also seeks support for the United Nations Conference on 2025 climate change (COP 30), which will take place in Belém do Pará, in November.
Lula also spoke about the 130 years of diplomatic relations, among the nations that, according to him, were “supported by mutual respect and continuous collaboration.”
According to him, Japan and Brazil are “strategic partners” that share values such as democracy and sustainable development.
A meeting with Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba is scheduled for Wednesday (26). At the time, the president must sign bilateral agreements before leaving the next day, according to a statement by the Brazilian government.
Lula will travel to Hanoi, Vietnam, on Thursday (27) for the second part of his trip to Asia.
