Lula laments the death of Rita Lee and praises the singer’s legacy: “She will never be forgotten”

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) lamented, on his social networks, the death of singer Rita Lee. She died on Monday night (9), aged 75, at her home in São Paulo.

“Rita Lee Jones is one of the biggest and most brilliant names in Brazilian music. Singer, songwriter, actress and multi-instrumentalist. An artist ahead of her time. She thought the title queen of rock was inappropriate, but the nickname does justice to her journey,” the tweet reads.

“Rita helped transform Brazilian music with her creativity and daring. She spared nothing and no one with her humor and eloquence. She faced machismo in life and music and inspired generations of women in rock and art.

She will never be forgotten and leaves her legacy in music and books for millions of fans around the world. My fraternal hug to the children Beto, João and Antônio, family and friends. Rita, now you’re missing.”
