President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) met this Tuesday (4th) with the Minister of Economy of Argentina – and government candidate for the presidential elections in the country – Sergio Massa. During the meeting, Lula invited the Argentine to visit Brazil.
In the conversation, the two also discussed the possibility of financing, by the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), for the Néstor Kirchner gas pipeline, in Argentina.
Last week, during a reception for the Argentine president, Alberto Fernández, in Brasilia, Lula said he was “very satisfied” with the perspective of financing the construction of the 2nd section of the gas pipeline that will take gas from Argentina to other countries, such as Brazil.
Sergio Massa will have Agustín Rossi as his runner-up. Thus, the ruling party, identified with Peronism, downgraded the candidacies of Daniel Scioli, Argentina’s ambassador to Brazil, and Eduardo “Wado” de Pedro, current Minister of the Interior and trusted man of the country’s vice president, Cristina Kirchner. .
Massa still does not have fully defined competitors. Former Argentine President Mauricio Macri’s party will still have to choose between Horacio Larreta, mayor of Buenos Aires, and Patricia Bullrich, former Minister of Security.
The Argentine extreme right will have Javier Milei as a candidate. The left still has two pre-candidates: Myriam Bregman and Gabriel Solano.
