Lula meets with Haddad and Marinho to discuss minimum wage and tax reform

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva called government ministers and secretaries to a meeting, late this Thursday afternoon (2), to address, among other matters, the articulation to move forward with the tax reform, which is stalled in the National Congress.

Meeting with Lula are the ministers of Finance, Fernando Haddad, of the Civil House, Rui Costa, and of Labour, Luiz Marinho – who appears on the agenda as a federal deputy, since he was exonerated to take office in the Chamber.

Also participating in the meeting, at the Planalto Palace, are the Extraordinary Secretary for Tax Reform, Bernard Appy, and the Special Secretary for the Federal Revenue, Robinson Sakiyama Barreirinhas – led by Haddad.

The agenda was not officially released, but the CNN found out, with an interlocutor from Haddad, that, at the meeting, Lula should also discuss the value of the minimum wage and changes in the Tax Resources Administration Council (CARF) – in addition to tax reform.

Changes in taxation and tax collection rules were cited as priorities by both presidents re-elected in the National Congress. This Wednesday (1st), after being victorious in the elections in the Chamber of Deputies and in the Federal Senate, Arthur Lira and Rodrigo Pacheco, respectively, promised to speed up the vote on the Tax Reform in the coming months.

Lira said, in a press conference, that the text of the tax reform is “legally ready” to be voted in plenary. But, however, it must be forwarded for debate among the new parliamentarians, who took office this year, before being put to the vote.
