Lula says he called Putin and asked for the end of the war in Ukraine

President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) said on Tuesday (13) in Beijing, that he even called Russian President Vladimir Putin before the trip last week to Moscow and asked him to waive the war in Ukraine.

“I had the petulance of one day to call President Putin and say: Stop this war and go back to politics, because politics is very needing to change the debate for the growth of the extreme radicalized Nazi worldwide,” Lula said.

The president also said he was happy with the result of the conversations about peace in conflict and the result of the trip.

“And it is with great optimism that I saw Putin’s proposal, that I saw Putin’s proposal acceptance by Zelensky and that President Xi Jinping and I put the result in a note and we disclose this by congratulating both Putin’s proposal and Zelensky’s acceptance in the possibility that he gets together in Istanbul and can really talk.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed “direct conversations” with Ukraine on Thursday (15) in Istanbul, Turkey, seeking a ceasefire between the two countries.

Putin’s speech occurs as European leaders and the United States press Putin to agree with a 30-day ceasefire, seeking to end the three-year conflict.
