Lula says he has no European “nervousness” about being far from the war in Ukraine

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said, this Thursday (28), that he does not need to have the “nervousness” of European countries regarding the war between Ukraine and Russia, as he is far from the countries.

The statement took place at Palácio do Planalto alongside the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.

“I'm so many thousand kilometers away from Ukraine that I don't have to have the same nervousness that the French people who are closer, the German people, the European people have,” said Lula.

“Brazil never had any doubts regarding the war in Ukraine. Brazil was the first country in Latin America to protest against Russia's invasion of Ukraine”, he continued, criticizing the UN Security Council, whose members, in his opinion, take unilateral decisions without discussions in forums.

For Lula, Vladimir Putin, president of Russia, and Volodymyr Zelensky, president of Ukraine, who he classified as “pointy”, “will have to understand each other”.

“At some point they will have to sit down and come to the conclusion that what has been done so far was not worth it, the destruction, the spending, the investments in weapons, which is much greater than the investments made to combat hunger , inequality and misery”, explained the head of the Brazilian Executive, who was in favor of peace.

Macron, last month, caused controversy by saying that he could not rule out sending troops to Ukraine in the future. From this, Russia responded by saying that France was already involved in the war.

According to the French head of state, the country “is a power of peace”, which wants dialogue and to return to the negotiating table.

However, “France wants to say that we are not weak, and that if there were an endless escalation of that aggression, we have to organize ourselves so as not to just have to regret it. Defend international democracy and law”, expressed Macron.
