President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) ranked the trip to Russia and the meeting with Vladimir Putin as a “historical moment”, stressing that the intention of the visit is to build strategic partnerships between the countries.
“We have a chance that, at this historical moment, we can do (sic) With that our business relationship can grow a lot, ”commented Lula.
“We understand that the growth potential of this relationship is very large, which is why we are here,” he said at another time.
The president stressed that Brazil has “political, commercial, cultural, scientific and technological” interests with Russia.
During the meeting, Lula also presented ministers who accompany him on the trip, as well as David Alcolumbre, president of Congress, and the deputy mayor.
The visit also seeks to signal the independence of Brazil’s foreign policy, but analysts point out that there may be the opposite effect, reinforcing ideological alignment with Russia.
The Brazilian head of state attended the Russian Victory Day parade on Friday (9), which marks the Vermelho Army victory and its allies against Nazi Germany in World War II.
On Thursday (8), Lula participated in a dinner offered by Putin at Kremlin.
