We are both committed to strengthening the European Union-Brazil partnership, notably taking the Mercosur agreement to the finish line and intensifying our joint fight against deforestation. I am looking forward to visiting Brazil soon”, wrote the president of the European Commission.

The trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosur has already been approved, but ratification is blocked in the parliaments of European nations due to criticism of the Brazilian environmental policy adopted during the government of former President Jair Bolsonaro.
Lula has already ordered his diplomatic assistants to negotiate the release of the agreement with the improvement of the Brazilian environmental indices registered as early as January.
