In a speech held on Sunday night (26), at a restaurant in the West Zone of São Paulo, PT pre-candidate for the presidency, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, thanked him for resources donated to the party.
The former president arrived shortly before 8 pm, accompanied by his wife, sociologist Rosângela da Silva, Janja. The event was closed to the press, but according to interlocutors of the former president CNN in a speech lasting about seven minutes, Lula reportedly said that the donations will serve to reorganize the party’s bases.
The Prerogatives Group, made up of lawyers critical of Operação Lava Jato, was the main organizer of the dinner, in which businessmen also participated.
The lawyer and coordinator of the group, Marco Aurélio de Carvalho, said that the event served to thank the contributions to a campaign that began more than 30 days ago and, according to him, will continue.
“The event has no direct or indirect connection with fundraising. It was just an opportunity that we took advantage of, since many people who are here continue to collaborate, have already collaborated, will collaborate, to thank this movement, which is a civic movement for the reconstruction and reconciliation of the country”, said Carvalho.
The lawyer also said that the dinner also served to celebrate the release of the documentary “Meu Amigo Secreto”, by filmmaker Maria Augusta Ramos, about the Lava Jato operation.
In his speech, Lula would also have talked about the period in which he was imprisoned. According to interlocutors, the former president said that there were those who thought he would be spiteful after leaving prison, but actually said that as he is in love, he does not have time to be resentful.
Partnership with Alckmin
Lula would also have reinforced the partnership with the former adversary and pre-candidate for the vice-presidency of the Republic, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB).
According to people close to Lula, the former president would also have said that no one would imagine a partnership between him and the former governor of São Paulo and former toucan Geraldo Alckmin (PSB). And that, together, they do not intend only to govern, but to take care of the country and restore normality.
Jokingly, the former president reportedly said that the dinner could have included a plate of chayote with squid.
According to people close to the former president, more than 200 people confirmed their presence at the event. Among those present were Lula’s political allies, such as former minister Aloizio Mercadante, former mayor of São Paulo, Fernando Haddad, former PT president, Rui Falcão, as well as representatives of social movements and small businessmen.
The largest portion of the public, however, was composed of lawyers, among them, Fábio Tofic, Conrado Gontijo and Alberto Zacharias Toron, who make up the staff of Grupo Prerrogativas.
The group’s representative, Marco Aurélio de Carvalho, said that other events like this should be organized.
