President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has an international agenda in Italy and France, with meetings with Pope Francis and French President Emmanuel Macron.
This is Lula’s ninth trip in this term.
For political scientist Eduardo Grin, there are three aspects that will be addressed by the president.
“The first is the attempt to rescue a promise after the election that the environmental issue, such as the preservation of the Amazon and native peoples, would be treated with relevance”, he said, to CNN Radio .
The second important topic is the war in Ukraine: “Lula, since he took office, has been insisting on the creation of a ‘peace club’ with countries not involved in the conflict.”
According to Grin, the matter should be discussed with Pope Francis, who can “put himself as a mediator.”
The last of them concerns the Mercosur-EU agreement, which has been the target of recent criticism by President Lula.
“The agreement has been facing obstacles due to criticism from European countries, especially France”, he recalled.
The political scientist still sees the Brazilian president’s intense travel schedule as an attempt to “widen Brazil’s international recognition.”
“Lula understands that the country must have another level of recognition in the international arena, with more significant space, seen as an actor that must be heard”, he added.
