Lula’s priority is tax reform, says Fernando Haddad

Quoted to be the new Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad said at an event in São Paulo this Friday (25th), that the priority of President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will be tax reform.

“First, [falarei de] Public budget both from the point of view of revenue and expenditure. Lula’s clear determination is that we can give full priority to tax reform right at the beginning of the next government. He tried twice during his last terms, with the support of all the governors. The second time, in 2007, he sent a proposal for a Constitutional Amendment to the National Congress so that we could promote tax reform, and we were unsuccessful”.

The former Minister of Education arrived looking like the main guest at the annual luncheon of Febraban, the Brazilian Federation of Banks, according to the economy analyst at CNN Fernando Nakagawa.

Minutes before the start of the event, Haddad went to the main hall, which receives 350 guests, and was the center of attention. He was greeted by several executives present.
