Luxembourg: ‘Erdogan bargains for NATO, tries to raise prices’

“Tayyip Erdogan is just trying to raise the price,” said Luxembourg Foreign Minister Jean-Asselborn, who expressed confidence that Turkey would not take responsibility for becoming the country that would prevent Sweden and Finland from joining.

“I doubt that the issue of the Turkish president really has to do with Finland and Sweden and with Kurdish extremist groups. On the contrary, Erdogan is trying to raise the price,” Asselborn told German radio. Deutschlandfunk) and spoke of a “market mentality”. Ankara’s negative stance is most likely related to the fact that Turkey is hoping for concessions on the sale of armaments systems, he said.

Ankara justifies its reservations about Sweden and Finland joining NATO, citing the two countries’ relations with the Kurdish PKK, which Turkey considers a terrorist organization.
