American bike rental company Lyft unveils the first of its own electric bike, which is equipped with a 500W electric motor and a single-stage transmission.
Thanks to a large battery, the first Lyft bike can travel nearly 100 km on a single charge. The battery and connecting cables are built into the frame, which has a reflective design, which improves the visibility of the bike in the dark, like at road signs. The bike is equipped with a powerful LED front light.
The rear wheel is equipped with a hydraulic disc brake. The electric bike also has a built-in LCD screen that displays information about speed, remaining battery level, and so on. The seat is easy to adjust in height for different heights of users.
A Lyft spokesperson said the new bike will initially be available for public beta testing in San Francisco next week, and then gradually rolled out to markets across the country, starting in Chicago.
Since the start of the pandemic, Lyft has seen a surge in the popularity of e-bikes. Since physical distancing is one of the important preventative rules, many people have chosen to use bicycle services for getting around. In the last year alone, Lyft registered about 1.8 million new users, reflecting the growing demand for its services. In addition, the demand for e-bikes has grown by 2 times more than for conventional bicycles.
