M. Katrinis: Greece can not be a client state – Time for a strong Greek defense industry.

The purchase and arrival in Greece of the first 6 Rafale is not offered either for communication fiestas, or for party exploitation, emphasizes in an announcement Michalis Katrinis, Head of K.O. of the Movement for Change.

According to the announcement:

“The defense of the country is a very serious matter and the Movement for Change, having the DNA of PASOK, knows it very well. That is why the choices of the party were and always are choices of responsibility.
The deterrent power of our Air Force and the country’s defense is significantly enhanced by the presence of new and modern aircraft.

However, no one can ignore the fact that the agreement does not provide for either co-production or assignment of part of the construction project to the Greek defense industry.

The government has kept its word on everything related to the Greek defense industry, creating obstacles even in investment initiatives that can give perspective to the shipbuilding and defense industry, at the same time that Turkey has invested in this sector.
We always speak with proposals, we always put forward the national interest.
The country needs to have a strong and competitive defense industry. To cease to be exclusively a “client country”.

In this direction:

1st) Every supply of weapons system must be combined with an agreement that will assign part of the construction project to the Greek defense industry.
2nd) We must invest in the research and development of new weapons systems, through the Greek defense industry and in collaboration with educational institutions and companies of new technology.
3rd) The naval program of the Navy must be implemented in the Greek shipyards.

Let me remind you that Greek officers, the executives of the E.D. of the naval squad Skaramaga and the employees of the shipyards Skaramaga, proceeded to the completion of the construction and the upgrade of the 4 Greek submarines which together with the “Papanikolis” are today a comparative advantage for the defense of our country.

Greece has brilliant minds, scientists and capable executives in the Armed Forces, who can support the operation and development of the Greek Defense Industry.

“But we need a government that has a strong will.”
