“We will vote for the agreement despite the serious objections and shortcomings for its negotiation and its duration, because at this critical juncture there is no room for loss of important allies,” the PASOK-KINAL leader said. He asked for additional clarifications from the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, why the agreement does not explicitly include a reference to Article 51 of the UN Charter on the legal defense of states when their sovereignty is threatened.
Michalis Katrinis stressed that “we do not give a blank check to the government” which he called on the US to formally ask for explanations for the possibility of giving F-16s to Turkey, as it became known. “Allied relations must be equal,” he said.
