M. Katrinis: PASOK-KINAL will vote for the Greece-US agreement despite its serious objections

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the leader of the Official Opposition, Alexis Tsipras, were accused of deliberate shadow fighting by the leader of the PASOK-KINAL Central Committee, Michalis Katrinis, for the sabotages they exchanged in the US Parliament.

Mr. Katrinis criticized Mr. Mitsotakis for appearing embarrassed to convince him of the importance of the agreement, for joining Mr. Velopoulos’s rhetoric by questioning PASOK’s timeless patriotism, referring to the prime minister being against PASOK. “The political size of Mr. Mitsotakis does not reach the size and the contribution of Andreas Papandreou and PASOK”, said Mr. Katrinis.

At the same time, he succeeded against Alexis Tsipras, saying that he adopts anti-Americanism in order to unite his party audience in view of Sunday’s vote for the election of a leader in SYRIZA. He also sharply criticized him for criticizing PASOK-KINAL and Andreas Papandreou, saying that Mr. Tsipras should remember what his party did in 1990 to the founder of PASOK.

Mr. Katrinis stressed that PASOK-KINAL is not a patriotic a la carte nor did it use the country at critical moments to its advantage.

“We will vote for the agreement despite the serious objections and shortcomings for its negotiation and its duration, because at this critical juncture there is no room for loss of important allies,” the PASOK-KINAL leader said. He asked for additional clarifications from the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, why the agreement does not explicitly include a reference to Article 51 of the UN Charter on the legal defense of states when their sovereignty is threatened.

Michalis Katrinis stressed that “we do not give a blank check to the government” which he called on the US to formally ask for explanations for the possibility of giving F-16s to Turkey, as it became known. “Allied relations must be equal,” he said. Katrinis. He noted that Mr. Erdogan’s review policy is the same as Russia’s review policy in the Ukraine war.

He also pointed out that the situation is favorable to promote the permanent positions of Greece based on international law.
