M. Katrinis: ‘The government has left the Greek citizens defenseless against the accuracy’

“For more than 4 months now, price increases and increases in commodity prices have affected the whole of Greek society and especially the economically weakest,” said the leader of the Parliamentary Group of the Movement for Change, Michalis Katrinis.

The rest of Mr. Katrinis’ announcement states that: “Greece has one of the highest VAT rates on basic foodstuffs, compared to other European countries.

In items such as milk or bread Greece has a VAT of 13% while other European countries have a VAT ranging between 4 and 7%.

In the face of this ever-deteriorating situation that reduces the purchasing power of citizens’ incomes and intensifies-day by day-inflationary pressures, the government has adopted a completely passive attitude.

It lets the market self-regulate when it is clear that things are out of control, coupled with rising energy costs.

Not only does it not take steps to reduce prices but it also does not carry out audits to deal with profiteering.

Rejects any discussion of a reduction in VAT on basic foodstuffs, leaving Greek citizens defenseless in the face of accuracy and a sharp increase in the cost of living.

We always speak with suggestions, in order to address the consequences of the accuracy that affects households and businesses.

In this direction we have proposed:

– Reduction of VAT on basic foodstuffs
– Reduction of VAT on fuel
– Brave increase of the minimum wage
– Intensive market controls ”
