M. Katrinis: The Prime Minister has in mind the cover-up of the wiretapping scandal

LAST UPDATE: 14.47

“We have a Prime Minister who didn’t know, didn’t ask, doesn’t care, doesn’t answer. A Prime Minister who refuses to take political responsibility. A Prime Minister who believes he can monitor his political opponents and actors in public life and when it is revealed, he invokes either non-existent national reasons or shifts the responsibilities to others. A Prime Minister who is clear that from the first moment he had and continues to have in his mind, the cover-up of the wiretapping scandal” emphasized the head of the PASOK parliamentary group, Mr. Michalis Katrinis speaking in the Parliament during the discussion of the proposal to establish an inquiry committee.

He estimated that New Democracy will do everything in its power to prevent the revelation of the truth. Because along with the truth, a parastatal mechanism that moves and operates on the verge of perversion will also be revealed.

As he said, the commission of inquiry cannot and should not turn from a means of uncovering the truth into a field of covering up a very dark case.

Referring to the Prime Minister, Mr. Katrinis emphasized that “Mr. Mitsotakis, last Friday, not only refused to answer the questions that were raised, but tried to appear as an honoree. He reached the point of asking for an explanation from the President of PASOK , which he was watching. He exceeded all limits of political cynicism, audacity and contempt for democratic norms.”

Michalis Katrinis asked the questions that should be asked and answered by the commission of inquiry in order to reveal the truth:

1st) What was the national reason with which Mr. Mitsotakis justifies the monitoring of Nikos Androulakis. That the file and details of the monitoring of Nikos Androulakis be submitted to the Institutions and Transparency Committee.

2nd) Who tried to trap the cell phone of the president of PASOK with the Predator malware? Trying to keep the company selling this illegal software in the dark may be hiding a lot.

3rd) What is the function of mechanisms within the EYP, such as the Technological Support Center for Innovation Development (KETYAK) of the EYP, which is a hybrid and mainly uncontrolled body that no one knows what contracts it has concluded, with whom and for what purpose.

4th) Which other politicians, journalists and actors of public life are monitored by the EYP.

Michalis Katrinis also stated that other complaints based on specific evidence should be investigated, such as the monitoring of the KKE call center.

The head of the PASOK parliamentary group closed his speech by saying:

” It is not normal to monitor with a simple request of the EYP, only with the mobile phone number without declaring a name, without sufficiently documenting the reasons that require the monitoring, with the signature of one or two prosecutors who consent without a substantial evaluation.

It is not normal that the Authority for Ensuring the Privacy of Communications is effectively abolished, since it is deprived of the right to check whether there are real reasons for the surveillance and also about who is being monitored and under what conditions.

PASOK is taking the initiative to reveal the truth. This initiative does not end with the establishment of the examination committee. There will be parallel initiatives in the field of operation of the Committee on Institutions and Transparency, at the European level, in justice but also in society.
