M. Manousakis (IPTO): New historical record of green energy on April 2

A new record of all times in the participation of green energy in the electricity system was set last Saturday, April 2, when the country’s total demand for electricity was covered by Renewable Sources at 68%.

This fact was mentioned by the president and CEO of IPTO Manos Manousakis, during his post today at the Delphi Economic Forum, emphasizing that for the first time it was necessary to reject (for security reasons) energy from RES.

Mr. Manousakis underlined that in order to achieve further penetration of RES, equally necessary parameters are the continuous development of electrical infrastructure and the integration of new technologies, such as storage, in the energy system of the country.

“In terms of transmission projects, IPTO, with an investment program of 5 billion euros, is constantly intensifying domestic and international connections, creating a sufficient electricity space for RES, which is expected to reach 29 GW by 2030, depending At the same time, we are doing everything possible to speed up the licensing procedures, in cooperation with RIS. Of course, there are also difficulties. implementation of our investments “, stressed the head of IPTO.

He noted that as a country we have achieved one of the best performances in Europe in terms of the rate of absorption of new RES, amid an unprecedented investment interest. Specifically, today the power of RES in operation amounts to 9 GW, the occupied space for new projects to 10 GW while since the beginning of 2021 requests have been submitted for another 19 GW.

Referring to the international interconnections, he pointed out that the tender for the new interconnection with Bulgaria has been completed, while a second interconnection is being launched with Italy. “We are contributing to the international connections with Cyprus and Egypt, at the same time we are considering two new connections with Turkey and Albania, while we will upgrade the existing connection with Northern Macedonia”, concluded Mr. Manousakis.
