M. Papadopoulos: Transport Services are being digitized with the operation of the new information system

The new Information System of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, presented today, Monday, February 14, 2022, by the political leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, provides a number of possibilities for the digitization of the procedures in the Transport Services and the improvement of the service of the citizens. Deputy Minister, responsible for Transport Mr. Michalis Papadopoulos, the General Secretary of Transport Mr. Giannis Xifaras, together with the General Manager of ONEX IoT, Mr. Konstantinos Nikolouzos.

The new Information System was launched on January 24, 2022 and is already used by the Transport and Communications Directorates of the Regions across the country, which can now handle citizens’ affairs at a higher speed.

Millions of data related to vehicle registrations, licenses, driving licenses and special licenses have been successfully transferred to a new digital environment with many possibilities to support new applications.

In particular, data was transferred on 13 million vehicles and 14 million owners, 8 million driving licenses and the adaptation of 150 administrative procedures to 5 application groups.

A key element of the new system is its interoperability with other Services information systems, which was not possible with the previous information system installed in 1984 and developed in the “COBOL” programming language.

Gradually, the new Information System will be integrated with new applications such as the electronic control of the supporting documents for the transfers, as well as the electronic information of the system for the KTEO controls and the payment of the Traffic fees.

On the occasion of the operation of the new Information System, the Deputy Minister of Transport, Mr. Michalis Papadopoulos said: “After many years of fruitless efforts, by decision of Minister Costas Karamanlis, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport acquires a modern Information System that transports Transport Services to the Digital Cloud (G-Cloud) environment. The new system can support new The current government is creating the infrastructure for the electronic handling of citizens’ affairs in the Transport Services, offering a high level of services at the present time. and a guarantee for the future. ”

The Secretary General of Transport, Mr. Giannis Xifarasstressed: “The creation of a platform that interacts with the other systems of the Greek state, enables us to proceed with a series of digital tools that in the first phase solve a number of everyday issues, such as better service to citizens, increasing the productivity of the Services of the Ministry and the enhancement of transparency, while at the same time they are the basis for the production of other tools and applications that are even related to road safety “.

The General Manager of ONEX IoT, Mr. Konstantinos Nikolouzos stated: “The ONEX Group has successfully implemented a demanding and strategically important project, that of the transition of the central information system of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, and its transition to the new era of new technologies, to support 88 regional services throughout Greece. A project that will contribute greatly to the modernization of the internal procedures of the Ministry and, consequently, to the service of the citizen “.
