The Elefsina Counseling Center, which provides free psychosocial and legal support services to women victims of violence, was visited today by the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, in charge of Demographic Policy and Family, Maria Syregela, and the Deputy Minister of Justice, in charge of Humanitarian Affairs Of Rights, George Kotsiras, in the presence of the mayor of Elefsina, Argyris Economou.

The two Undersecretaries met with the scientific staff of the Counseling Center and congratulated him for the great help he offers to women who have suffered any form of violence, as well as for the information and awareness actions they organize on the prevention and fight against violence.

According to Ms. Syregela, the Elefsina Counseling Center, which supports dozens of women, is part of an integrated network of services for the prevention and response to gender-based violence. Throughout Greece there are 43 Counseling Centers that offer support to women victims of violence and help them continue their lives on new bases.

Counseling Centers are addressed to both women who have experienced incidents of gender and domestic violence and third parties, such as relatives or friends of the abused woman. It is characteristic that more than 4,500 people, women – victims of violence, but also persons from their relatives and friends, have addressed since the beginning of the year to the Counseling Centers of the GGDOPIF Network to seek advice and guidance from specialized psychologists and social workers .

“We must break our silence and encourage both victims and third parties who have witnessed abusive behavior to report incidents of violence and heinous acts that violate human rights,” said Deputy Foreign Minister Syregela.
