M. Syregela: The actions for the strengthening of women’s employment

The Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, in charge of Demographic Policy, Family and Gender Equality, Maria Syregela, referred to the network of policies implemented to strengthen women’s employment, speaking at a panel of the Future of Retail 2022 conference of the Hellenic Confederation ( ESEE), on “The impact of technology on work and business”.

Ms. Syregela noted that, in recent years, there has been a decrease in female unemployment, “without this meaning that we have no way forward” and added that what is observed is that companies that maintain a balanced representation between men and women are more profitable. He stressed that the employment and entrepreneurship programs that are planned, emphasize women.

At the same time, the Deputy Minister of Labor analyzed some of the actions of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs which aim at the harmonization between family and professional life, such as, for example, the “Neighborhood Nanny” program, the paternity leave, which were introduced with the law for the Protection of Labor and the places of babysitting in large companies, etc.

At this point, the Undersecretary of Labor praised the important role of the social partners in shaping the programs.

During her speech, Ms. Syregela also stressed that the labor market is changing and pointed out that many of the new jobs – well paid – that will be created in the future, are in the IT sector.

In this context, the Deputy Minister of Labor stressed the importance of retraining and the acquisition of new skills, while giving special emphasis to the creation of the “Innovation Center for Women”.
