“The elimination of all forms of violence in the workplace and the protection of workers from abusive behavior are among the priorities of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. With the labor bill we ratified ILO Convention 190 to eliminate violence and harassment in the world of work, sending a clear message that there will be no tolerance for such phenomena. ”

This was emphasized by the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, responsible for Demographic Policy and the Family, Maria Syregela, speaking on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at a meeting of the Equality Committee of KEDE on sexual harassment and violence in the workplace in Trikala.

As the Undersecretary stated, “We are creating a safety net for every worker, man or woman. The ‘safety net’ covers all persons in the workplace, regardless of employment status, and we ensure that workers who find the strength to report violent behavior “We are not dealing with adverse effects. We are on the side of the workers-victims of violence, we are helping them to overcome their traumatic experience and we are establishing a procedure for the immediate and rapid examination of the relevant complaints.”

After the meeting, Ms. Syregela visited the Counseling Support Center for Women Victims of Violence of the Municipality of Trikala and met with officials of the Center, while the meeting was also attended by the Deputy Mayor of Social Welfare Nikolaos Sakkas.

According to an announcement by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, the Undersecretary thanked the staff of the Counseling Center for the services of psychosocial support, legal counseling and information on victims’ rights, which offers free and congratulatory staff for the awareness and information actions they carry out. , in order to prevent and address the phenomenon of violence against women.

As Ms. Syregela stressed, “no woman is alone in the fight against violence, but we are all by their side, to support them and help them stand on their own two feet and move on with their lives.”

Afterwards, the Undersecretary attended an event of the Association of Parents with many children in the prefecture of Trikala, during which mothers with many children were awarded.
