M. Varvitsiotis: EU to pressure Turkey to impose sanctions on Russia

The need to protect the citizens of Ukraine, especially the Greek expatriates, and the need for compliance of all Western and Turkish forces in the imposition and application of economic sanctions on Russia, stressed the Deputy Foreign Minister, Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, at today’s informal General Council EU Affairs, held in the French city of Arles.

In particular, Mr. Varvitsiotis, upon his arrival at the Council, expressed his concern about the latest developments in Ukraine, especially after last night’s strikes at the Zaporizhia nuclear plant, and stressed the need for cooperation between the EU and all countries. NATO sanctions in order to make real sense and push President Putin to change strategy.

“That is why we will ask our EU partners to put pressure on Turkey to comply with other countries in imposing economic sanctions,” he said.
