M. Varvitsiotis: SYRIZA has not realized that the war is a personal choice of Putin

On the occasion of announcement of the SYRIZA Press Officelaunching an attack on him for his statements on the purpose of international sanctions against Russia, Deputy Foreign Minister Miltiadis Barvitsiotis notes:

“The sanctions imposed by the EU and the international community are also aimed at Mr Putin and his family, their close staff and their financial environment.

At the same time, the pressure exerted by the sanctions on the Russian economy is aimed at raising the political and economic costs of continuing this war.

Of course, sanctions are not aimed at regime change. “The future of Russia will be decided by the Russian people, who are also suffering and paying heavy consequences for the invasion of Ukraine.”

He concludes: “We are impressed by the fact that SYRIZA has not yet realized that this war is a personal choice of Mr. Putin and that authoritarianism is the opponent of freedom and democracy.”
