M. Varvitsiotis: We are not going to give in to Turkey’s challenges

“Greece is showing composure and determination in the face of Turkish challenges. In no case, however, will we allow Turkey to play a game of provocation and tension without realizing that this game that it is cultivating verbally at the moment will remain unanswered.” underlined the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, in today’s interview on Sky TV.

In particular, for the meeting of the Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the German Chancellor, Olaf Solz, the Deputy Minister stressed that Mr. Mitsotakis informed his interlocutor that our country has sat at the table of dialogue with the neighbor and “while “We have received the relevant assurances, the day after the dialogue, instead of leading to de-escalation, we are leading to escalation, either with overflights or with claims from Turkey.”

Mr. Varvitsiotis reiterated that our country is prepared for all contingencies, through an unprecedented program of equipment and upgrading our deterrent capacity and added that Greece is not the one who wants escalation or who wants to add fuel to the fire. but it is clear that we are relentless in the face of Turkey’s challenges.

Asked about the cover of a French magazine featuring the Russian and Turkish presidents, he said the rhetoric between Putin and Erdogan was the same in terms of the politics of revisionism and bigotry.
