M. Varvitsiotis: We will ask for a clear position of all our partners for Turkey at the June Summit

“A member state, an ally, cannot be threatened without the unanimous support of all partners. As the Greek Prime Minister announced, we will raise the issue of Turkey at the June Summit and ask for a draft to be included in the draft conclusions. “a clear position from all European countries,” said Deputy Foreign Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis today on r / s “Parapolitika 90.1” and on the show “Bra de fer” with journalists Christina Korai and Dimitris Takis.

Regarding yesterday’s meeting of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis with German Chancellor Olaf Soltz, in which he also participated, the Deputy Foreign Minister stressed that the Greek side asked for a clear position from Germany on the Turkish provocation. “We expect the German government to take the right position,” he said.

Regarding the mission of Armored Combat Vehicles (TOMA) BMP-1, which had come to Greece under the ministry of Ioannis Varvitsiotis, as he reminded, Mr. Varvitsiotis stressed that Germany will send them to Ukraine, after receiving the newest German Marder. “Greece is not going to provide Ukraine with any weapons system that it needs and guarantees the security of its own borders,” he said.

In the same context, Mr. Varvitsiotis stressed that Greece is trying to make clear the increase in aggressive Turkish rhetoric after the Erdogan-Mitsotakis meeting and especially after the Prime Minister’s visit to the United States. Regarding the fact that Turkey asks for non-participation of third parties in the Greek-Turkish dialogue, he commented that “it can not accept that on the table we have behind us Europe and the deepening Greek-American cooperation”.

The Deputy Minister also referred to the pressure for increased migratory flows in the Evros and the Aegean, which has put the Armed Forces on alert to repel any new attempt to instrumentalize migrants. “We are preparing at all levels, we are showing calm, we are mobilizing and informing our partners, but without raising the climate of tension. We are prepared for any eventuality,” he added.

Asked whether Greece will have allies next to it in case of military involvement, Mr. Varvitsiotis replied that Greece is creating alliances that will act as a deterrent, but the Greeks are the ones who will fight for their country. He cited as an example of heroism General Konstantinos Korkas, who passed away a few days ago.

Finally, regarding the current energy crisis, the Deputy Minister pointed out that the government has already implemented a “huge program to support the economy” and noted that it will continue to have resources to alleviate those affected by the existing budgetary possibilities.
