M. Voridis: The morbidity of the Omicron mutation will determine the developments

The Minister of Interior, Makis Voridis, speaking to ANT1 and answering the question why the new measures to deal with the pandemic announced yesterday will take effect from January 3 and not immediately, said that “we must not forget that we are going through the period of holidays in which traditionally “There is a lot of mobility. So if the measures were implemented immediately, there was a risk that the problem would be reversed and transferred to family gatherings with a possible maximization of the consequences.”

Regarding teleworking in the State, he said that there is already a plan for each service with the possibilities that exist for employees to go to teleworking at a rate of up to 50% per organic unit. So the heads of each service are the ones who will determine how many and which employees will go to work from next week.

Mr. Voridis reiterated that there is no way we can lead to a new lockdown, but stressed that the epidemiological data are what determine the measures and emphasizing that the morbidity of the Omicron variant is what will judge the developments.

The Minister of Interior, stressed once again that “the weapon against the coronavirus is the vaccine” and reminded that the percentage of those not vaccinated in the ICU is 85% and the deaths from coronavirus are 95% unvaccinated.

Finally, among other things, Mr. Voridis clarified that the measures are taken based on the optimistic scenario because if they were taken based on this pessimistic, it would entail a great cost and financial, but also in the field of freedoms.
