Maas for Turkey: Sends the wrong human rights messages

The German Foreign Minister referred to Turkey Haiko Maas on arrival for meeting with his EU counterparts in Brussels.

THE Turkey sends the wrong messages to the European Union when it withdraws from a pact designed to tackle violence against women, and when it closes the pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party (HDP), it has warned.

“It simply came to our notice then. the ban on HDP “and especially the withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention, are absolutely the wrong messages”, said Maas, as broadcast by AMPE.

In the meantime, in the conflict between Turkey and Greece in the eastern Mediterranean there are signs of de-escalation, claimed Maas.

“As far as Turkey is concerned, there is light and shadow,” Maas said. “We need to discuss these mixed messages coming today from Turkey and we will continue to aim for an ongoing dialogue “And we will use this dialogue to delve into issues in which we believe Turkey is sending the wrong messages,” he added.
