Macron and Joe Biden spoke on Thursday to discuss the war in Ukraine

French President Emmanuel Macron spoke by phone this Thursday (20) with US President Joe Biden, the Élysée Palace said in a statement, adding that the two leaders discussed Ukraine and China.

“(Emmanuel Macron) also recalled the importance of Europeans continuing to rearm to assume their responsibilities in the transatlantic sharing of the security burden,” the statement said.

The two heads of state emphasized their desire to strengthen cooperation and support for international law in the Indo-Pacific region.

They also discussed the situation in Sudan, specifies the French presidency. The two countries have been working to forge a peace agreement between the country’s army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Rival troops have been in a bloody clash since last Saturday, which has resulted in at least 331 deaths and more than 3,000 people injured.

The United States is preparing to send large numbers of additional troops to its base in Djibouti in the event of an eventual evacuation from Sudan. France, on the other hand, is not yet considering withdrawing its citizens who are in the country at the moment.
