Germany and France have today presented plans for deeper security cooperation, including an initiative for early rocket warning system, in a joint declaration notified after the meeting of Chancellor Friedrich Mertz with President Emmanuel Macron in France. The French-German initiative called Jewel, which will be open to partners, will be formalized by letter of intentions, says the Declaration in which the two countries also emphasized their commitment to the development of the Main Ground Combat System (MGCS) tanks. Germany had accused the French industry this month of blocking the next phase of another joint project, the FCAS Common Fighter Aircraft Program. In the declaration, both countries also say they will launch a strategic dialogue on security interconnection, including focusing on France’s independent nuclear forces. Source: RES
