France will provide about 2 billion euros of extra military aid to Ukraine, President Emmanuel Macron said on Wednesday, accusing Russia to reinterpret and rewrite recent limited ceasefire agreements.
“I can announce today 2 billion euros of extra military support to Ukraine,” Macron said alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in Paris.
Macron added that anti-tanker missiles, earth-air missiles, armored vehicles and drones are part of the new military equipment to be supplied to Kiev. More combat jets mirage will also be provided.
The two presidents talked before a summit of about 30 leaders on Thursday (27) to reinforce help from Ukraine. They also discussed limited ceasefogs and a future European role to deter Russia from attacks when there is a broader deal negotiated.
“Ukraine has agreed with a ceasefire without conditions. We expect the same commitment from Russia,” Macron said, adding that it is too early to suspend European sanctions against Russia.
“I see today that Russia’s will is to rewrite and reinterpret what was discussed and agreed, listing new conditions. Far from proving that he wants peace, Russia continues to attack Ukraine’s territory every day,” the French President added.
