The French president Emmanuel Macron assured his Ukrainian counterpart today Volodymyr Zelensky that the return of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to the international spotlight will not affect European support in Kiev.
“The proliferation of crises will in no way weaken French and European support for Ukraine, which will continue for as long as necessary,” Macron stressed to Zelensky, according to a statement from the French presidency on the telephone conversation between the two leaders.
Macron and Zelensky also discussed the “needs” of the Ukrainian armed forces ahead of winter, as Ukraine sees its energy infrastructure almost certain to be targeted again by Russian forces.
The Ukrainian president said in a post on the X platform (formerly Twitter) that his country is paying “great importance to military aid from France”which has already delivered Caesar self-propelled guns and promised long-range SCALP missiles.
The two presidents also discussed Kiev’s peace plan and discussed issues related to food security, with a focus on grain exports through the Black Sea.
Regarding the flare-up of violence in the Middle East, they “stressed the need to protect the civilian population and prevent further escalation.”
For her part, Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kalas emphasized in a press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron that “more than ever, we must maintain our support for Ukraine, until (final) victory.”
