The National Security Council of France convened an extraordinary meeting on Monday with President Emanuel Macron regarding the developments that appear in the Ukrainian crisis, as announced by the Palais des Champs-Elysees.
Earlier, the French president had contacts with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zalensky, according to the Elysee Palace, and had contact with German Chancellor Olaf Solz and EU leaders to coordinate Europe’s “response” to the latest developments on the Russian-Ukrainian front.
Earlier in the day, the European Union (EU) called on Russia not to annex or recognize the breakaway regions of Ukraine, warning of sanctions by the 27-nation bloc if Moscow did so.
However, as the Kremlin recently announced, Russian President Vladimir Putin informed both Macron and Soltz during telephone conversations with both of them that he planned to sign a decree recognizing the independence of the two breakaway regions of the east. Ukraine soon.
