Macron: I will be president for all of us – I do not want to congratulate those who voted for Lepen

Crowds gathered at the “Field of Areos” in front of the Eiffel Tower, celebrating the victory of Emanuel Macron in the second round of the presidential election in France. The French president arrived with his wife Brigitte Macron, as well as many children and teenagers, to the sound of the European Union anthem.

“After five years of terrible crises today, April 24, 2022, the majority chose to trust us with our democracy for the next five years,” he said cheering.

“I want to thank all the members, our companions and all the elected ones who made this re-election a reality.

I know that you shared your beliefs and by touching your heart you saw the truth. Thank you!” he added, with the crowd below shouting: “Long live the president!”

“I want to thank those who trusted me to continue the fight for a France, to move forward with innovation and to make the country a great ecological nation.

I know that many people voted for me not because they embrace my ideas, but to raise a barrier to the far right. I want to emphasize to them that this vote makes me accountable to them for the next five years because they have strengthened democracy.

I also think of our compatriots who abstained. Their silence meant a denial of choice and we have to think about it.

I also think of those who voted for Mrs Lepen and I understand their frustration. I do not want you to congratulate them. I want to be the president of everyone, not the candidate of a camp. I know that for our compatriots who voted for the far right, their anger pushed them to vote for this program and it is also my responsibility and that of my staff. Today’s vote requires us to face all difficulties and respond to all expressions of anger.
