Macron – Matarella conversation about Ukraine

The presidents of France and Italy stressed the need to maintain the unity and close co-operation of Europe’s European partners in the Ukraine war during a telephone conversation on Thursday.

As announced by the French Presidency, Emanuel Macron and Sergio Matarella agreed on the need to continue Europe’s support for Ukraine and discussed food security problems that may escalate as a result of the Ukrainian crisis.

The Italian president referred to the joint will of Italy and Turkey to assist the countries on the southern shores of the Mediterranean. For his part, the President of France referred to his proposal for the creation of a European Political Community, with which the Italian President fully agreed.

The presidents of the Nordic countries of the EU (Denmark, Finland, Sweden) also agreed, with whom Emanuel Macron also contacted by phone earlier yesterday.

The issue is expected to be discussed at EU level within weeks, French diplomatic sources said.
