Macron: No mea culpa for pandemic management

As of today, Germany declares France a high-risk area. Spain follows on Tuesday. At the same time, President Macron does not feel the need to apologize like Merkel did.

The French hear and repeat Merkel’s mea culpa for the cancellation of the Easter measures and wonder if they will ever hear anything like that in France. The answer was given on Friday by himself Emmavuel Macron:

“There is no reason for any mea culpa, no remorse or failure. We were right because there was no planned outburst, “he said, responding to criticism that he did not proceed with a general lockdown at least in February.

He acknowledged, however, that the mutations had changed the situation and that already 19 districts in France, including the Paris region (Ile de France), were under strict measures. He also warned that a new strategy might be needed now. The unpleasant measures will certainly be presented by the prime minister.

Neighbors are taking action against France, however: in the north from today Germany closes its borders by imposing strict controls and from Tuesday Spain does the same in the south. For Germany in particular, the following applies: Those wishing to travel from France to Germany must present a negative coronavirus test. Stricter restrictions apply especially to those arriving from the French region of Moselle in Saarland and the Rhineland Palatinate, who are required to be quarantined for two weeks.

At the same time, due to the summer, the Parisians leave for escapes west of the Atlantic coast, but the locals complain that they bring them the virus.

Schools in France, on the other hand, remain open, with classes closed only when there is a case. Macron is betting on mass vaccinations, even organizing “vaccination races” at sports facilities in the hope that there will be no delays in vaccine arrivals.
