Macron on Turkish threats to Greece: No one can jeopardize EU member sovereignty

“No one can jeopardize the sovereignty of an EU member state,” said French President Emanuel Macron, referring to new Turkish provocative statements against Greece.

Speaking at the end of the Brussels Summit, Emanuel Macron said:

“The Greek Prime Minister has vigorously expressed Greece ‘s concerns – its legitimate concerns – and condemned the statements made by some Turkish officials challenging Greece’ s sovereignty over many of its islands. “No one can jeopardize the sovereignty of any member state today. These statements must be condemned as soon as possible, and that is exactly what I am doing here in front of you.”

The French president said today that after the sixth package of European sanctions against Russia he could not rule out the possibility of imposing additional sanctions on Moscow in the coming weeks.

Speaking to reporters after the Brussels summit, the French president also said he hoped an agreement could be reached with Russia in the coming days and weeks to boost Ukrainian food exports. He added that the recent talks between the presidents of Russia and Turkey on the issue were a “positive sign”.
