French President Emmanuel Macron told his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky that deliveries of French weapons to Ukraine would intensify in the coming days, adding that France was ready to respond to additional requests for help, as reported by Reuters.
In particular, as he informed the Elysee Palace after the telephone communication of the two presidents, “(Macron) confirmed that the arms shipments from France will continue and their intensity will increase in the coming days and weeks”.
France last week supplied 13 emergency services vehicles and has provided 800 tonnes of humanitarian aid since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began in late February.
The French presidency said in a statement that the two presidents had discussed security guarantees that France could provide to Ukraine as part of an international settlement that respects the country’s territorial integrity.
The two leaders also discussed ways for Ukraine to resume its grain exports, which have been blocked and “on which much of the world depends.”
Macron also said that Ukraine’s application for entry into the European Union will be considered at a summit in June, according to the Elysee statement.
At the same time, he reiterated an idea he had presented last week of creating a new “political community” outside the EU that would make Ukraine’s integration easier.
It is recalled that Russia this week opposed Ukraine’s accession to the EU, saying it would be tantamount to applying for NATO membership.
