Macron will announce his new government this afternoon

The new government of French President Emanuel Macron will be announced this afternoon, while the first meeting of the new cabinet is expected to take place on Monday, the French presidency announced today.

On Monday, Macron elected Labor Secretary Elizabeth Bourne as his new prime minister to lead his new cabinet in implementing planned reforms and help the president secure a parliamentary majority in June.

This is only the second time in 30 years that a woman has become Prime Minister of France.

The formation of the new government comes almost three weeks before the first round of parliamentary elections, which will be held in two rounds, on June 12 and 19.
