Macron wins the French elections with 58.5% of the vote

Emmanuel Macron has defeated his rival Marine Le Pen in the second round of the French presidential elections. The current president has obtained the 58.54% of the votes for his party, La República, compared to the 41.46% achieved by the leader of the extreme right, a historical result although insufficient for the National Front.

The elections have stood out for their low involvement In this second round, a 72%the lowest in the last 53 years, since the 1969 elections.

Macron, who will run the Elysee for five more years, appeared last night on the Champ de Mars, a few meters from the Eiffel Tower, assuring: “I know that many have not voted for my ideas, but to block the extreme right, that’s why I want to tell you that I am aware that this vote commits me for the next five years”.

The social and ideological fracture in France has been evident after these results, for which the president has pointed out: “Today’s vote forces us to consider all the difficulties and respond effectively to the anger that has been expressed”.

For his part, Le Pen declared: “Tonight’s result represents a splendid victory. Millions of compatriots have chosen the national field.” He later added that he will continue his commitment to France and the French “with the energy, the perseverance and the affection that you already know.”

In the coming weeks, Macron will prepare for the legislative elections on June 12 and 19, where he will have to revalidate his majority in the National Assembly, which is made up of 577 seats. It remains to be seen which coalition formula he will choose to achieve this.
