Following a request from the German authorities, police of Portugal intends to conduct new investigations into the highly publicized case of the disappearance ofs Madeline McCann. The search will take place near a dam, about 50 kilometers from where Madeleine McCann disappeared in 2007 while on holiday with her family.
The first major search for Madeleine began on Tuesday morning (23/5) at a remote dam in the Algarve, near the area where the little girl disappeared 16 years ago.
Police divers entered the water and a fire engine motor boat has also been sent into the water with two officers – marking the start of a two-day search of the area. Around 11:00 am on Tuesday (local time), Portuguese media reported that they had investigations begin.
A little later, footage from the scene was released showing policemen carrying some bags from the dam without it being known what they contained. The authorities are even looking for clothes, such as the pajamas the unfortunate girl was wearing when she disappeared, reports the Daily Mail.
British Metropolitan Police officer Jim Gamble says “I clearly think they know something” due to the massive mobilization. The informal operations center that has been set up with police officers in attendance shows that this is indeed a large mobilization with possible clues with Gamble telling the Mirror “I think we’ll find her”. “The language used by the authorities in their announcements implies that they are certain that Madeleine McCann is dead. However, they seem quite confident about the investigations they are doing now and about the eventual location of her body,” he added.
The touching message sent to little Madeleine by her parents for her 20th birthday
On May 12, Madeline’s parents addressed her in a heartbreaking video in honor of their daughter’s 20th birthday, saying “We are waiting for you as long as necessary».
In a Facebook post on the official Find Madeleine campaign page, they also wrote: “Happy Birthday Madeleine! We love you and we are waiting for you. We are never going to give up.”
